Local credit union partners with the 3rd edition on Sunday, April 5 in support of Silicon Valley Education Foundation; participants can save 10% all week long with promo code SVHALFEXCITE
San Jose, Calif. (February 11, 2020) – Run Local, event organizers of the Silicon Valley Half (SV Half), have welcomed Silicon Valley based Excite Credit Union as presenting sponsor of its 3rd edition on Sunday, April 5. The new partnership invites runners throughout the Bay Area to find running and financial success locally. In addition, with a mutual focus on strengthening the local community, the partnership includes financial support to Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF), the event’s official charity as well as 75 registrations to local foster children.
This event further supports Excite’s partnership with Silicon Valley Education Foundation, which was launched last year to promote its unique Step Up Savings program within the East San Jose school districts.
“We give everyone the chance to build a a financially stronger future, so together we can build a strong community,” said Brian Dorcy, President, CEO of Excite Credit Union. “We are happy to also be able to extend our commitment to supporting young people from foster care, which we do with financial contributions, scholarships and providing paid internships.”
Since the event’s inception in 2018, the SV Half has donated over $20,000 to SVEF. The SVEF is the only Silicon Valley nonprofit to have its proven STEM programs that accelerate college and career readiness validated by WestEd. Each of the five Run Local Bay Area events throughout 2020 support education and youth-based non-profits and since 2012 have raised over $100k for local organizations.
“SVEF is honored to be the beneficiary of the SV Half. It is through strong partnerships like this that we are able to bring game-changing math and college readiness programs to thousands of students in Silicon Valley,” commented Lisa Andrew, CEO of SVEF.
With a flat and fast Half Marathon (13.1 miles), 10K and 5K courses, the SV Half is made for personal record times during beautiful San Jose spring time weather. Runners will also have the opportunity to engage with one of America’s greatest runners and SV Half founding investor, Meb Keflezighi, Boston and New York Marathon Champion as well as Olympic silver medalist.
“In three short years we are seeing Silicon Valley’s signature running event come together with wonderful community partners who share similar community values,” said Aaron Jacobsen, President of Run Local. “Encouraging greater levels of wellbeing is not just about running a Half Marathon, but strengthening financial health and creating avenues for everyone in our community to succeed.”
All week long, ending Sunday, February 16 at 11:59pm PT participants can save 10% on any SV Half event with promotional code SVHALFEXCITE during registration. Learn more and register at: www.svhalfmarathon.com
